Could You Be Harming Your Child's Oral Health by Not Caring for Your Own?

Posted on 6/30/2017 by Office Manager
A man suffering from a missing tooth.
Have you fallen out of practice of taking care of your own teeth? If so, you could be doing damage to other people's oral health, too. When you get decay in your mouth, it can spread.

If you don't take care of your own mouth, it can begin to spread to those around you who ever share your germs. This means, you could wind up in a situation where you spread tooth decay to your closest loved ones.

Your Spouse or Child Could Even Be Harmed

How many times has your child come up to you and asked for a bite of what you are eating? If you know what this feels like, then you have shared germs with your child by sharing utensils.

What about kissing your spouse or significant other? If you have, then they could be getting some of the same decay germs you have in your mouth.

When you take care of your own mouth, you are also helping to protect those around you. Their oral health depends at least in part on yours.

Plus, the people around you may begin to follow in your footsteps. If they see you not caring for your oral health, they may think it is alright for them to do the same.

This is not the type of role model you want to be, so make sure you are doing what you can to care for your oral health each and every day.

If you went a while without taking as good of care of your mouth as you should have, then make sure you go in and see a dentist as soon as you can. That way, you can be sure to get your oral health caught up and keep it that way.

Contact our office if you have any questions about your oral health.
